3 Tips to Looking Your Best on Zoom

Have you ever noticed yourself looking kind of washed out on virtual meetings?

Or perhaps you may have felt conscious of the background clutter in your environment?

We're here to help. We will show you exactly what we did to go from this:

To this:

All photos are unedited and taken via Zoom.

Our model wears shirts from our Work From Home collection. Our new collection features a range of feel-cool Egyptian cotton shirts, specially chosen to help you look your best in virtual meetings.

For the month of June, we will be selling the collection at 20% off its usual price.

So, let's get started!

Here are the top 3 factors that affect how you look onscreen:

Dim lighting tends to cast unflattering shadows on your face. If you have an important meeting scheduled, set aside 10-15 minutes before the meeting to test the lighting.

Place your phone or laptop in front of you (whichever device you are using for your meeting), and move it from side to side to test how you look on camera.

Put a lamp in front of you to improve the lighting. Good lighting plays a huge difference in your onscreen presence.

You may also mount your device on a stand to get a more flattering and comfortable angle.

We recommend a mixture of warm (yellow) and cool (white) lighting for the most natural effect.

Yellow lighting can make the skin tone look a bit out of place with the surroundings.

White lighting can make your skin look sallow.

Most natural option for accurate colour reproduction.

Placing yourself near a window in the daytime would work well to get this kind of lighting.

You can also consider using a virtual background to cover the distracting clutter in your environment.

A good resource for backgrounds is unsplash.com.

Alternatively, find a plain wall as a background for your virtual meeting.

If it is a business meeting, use a background that is clean and neutral.

We found this image by searching for 'office' in unsplash.com.

If your Zoom meeting is a creative meeting or an interview, you can afford to be a little bit more expressive with your background choice.

Look for a background that doesn't have too many bright colours.

Often, having a background with greenery, such as houseplants and trees, will add an easygoing and approachable vibe to your onscreen presence.

For this background, we searched for 'houseplants'.

Wear a dress shirt to project professional confidence.

Our style tip? Wear a deep coloured shirt instead of a light pastel/white shirt. It makes a more memorable impact, and flatters your skin tone.

See for yourself:

Plain white shirts tend to look a bit 'blah' on virtual meetings.

This Navy shirt from our Work From Home collection offers more dimension and interest. Coupled with this dynamic background, the overall effect is striking and expressive.

We have curated a range of 9 Egyptian cotton fabrics for our Work From Home collection. These Egyptian cotton fabrics have also been selected for their feel-cool properties, perfect for Singapore's humid climate.

Place your order in June for 20% off the collection.

So there you have it! Our 3 tips to creating a memorable onscreen presence. Experiment with different styles - finding a style that works best for you is a journey of self-discovery. Ask your friends and family for feedback - they have your best interest at heart.
