How has your personal style evolved with age — and what does style mean to you today?
The shirts I wore from yesteryears are different from now — for one, they are slightly larger. I think there is more variety in colours and designs.
Tell us about your process when choosing a new shirt.
I am more of an intentional shopper. Therefore, when I walk in, I do have a rough idea of what I need. However, I can be persuaded to pick up other items.
CYC consultants are known for building long-term relationships with clients. Can you share your experience working with your tailoring consultant over the years?
The consultants recall your likes and dislikes — for example, I do not like my shirts to fit too tightly.
Your profession can be intense and detail-heavy. Do you find the tailoring experience with CYC to be a kind of creative or personal outlet?
Whenever I visit CYC, it is a relaxing and leisurely exercise — no stress. This is so different from a work environment.
What do you think people misunderstand about dressing well or investing in made-to-measure clothing?
Some have the misconception that dressing well is for those who want to show off or those who are wealthy. Dressing well is a statement that you value and take care of your well-being. In a social environment, it is a form of politeness to your inviter or host. If you are discerning and disciplined, you are able to spend reasonable amounts in dressing well — there is no need to be extravagant to dress well.
It is a feel-good factor — and helps in the way you carry yourself.
