A New Chapter in Tailoring Tradition: Meet Amrun Hisyam
Following in his father’s footsteps, both in law and in style, Amrun Hisyam is part of the next generation of CYC clients who value tradition with a modern twist. A young lawyer with a bright future ahead, Amrun brings a fresh energy to classic tailoring — recently designing his wedding suit in a Zegna Traveller cloth, guided by Jessica and the CYC team. With a love for nature and a sharp eye for fit and detail, Amrun represents a beautiful blend of heritage and individuality.
Your father introduced you to CYC, and now you’re tailoring your own shirts and suits with us. What was that experience like growing up, watching him build his wardrobe?
It was fun to look through the fabrics with him and learn about the customisation options of a shirt, a pair of trousers, or a suit. We used to visit the outlet at Republic Plaza where Mr Roland and Ms Marie were. They were really friendly, which made the experience very enjoyable. Nowadays, we go to the Capitol outlet to see Jessica. She's funny and pleasant to talk to. For us, this personal connection is what makes our visits truly special.
You recently tailored your wedding suit with us in a Zegna Traveller fabric. Can you tell us what that experience was like, and how you chose the details for such a meaningful piece?
I am truly thankful to receive this experience — Zegna fabric for my wedding suit! I wanted it to be as true to me as possible. I like subtlety, so I chose a navy blue with a diamond-like tessellation. While it looks gorgeous from afar, you could appreciate it even more up close.
Working with Jessica, how did you find the process of translating your vision into a suit that felt true to you—but also honoured tradition?
I felt very comfortable, as the team explained the differences between fabrics and styles, guiding me toward making my own choice. I didn’t have a full vision at first, but going through the different options with them helped.
You’ve got a deep appreciation for plants and nature. Do you find that influences your approach to colour, texture, or fabric in your tailoring?
Those who know me would tell you how much I love nature, and that the forest-themed lining I chose is absolutely 'me'. It evokes a sense of peace and tranquility, and a hint of adventure. Yes. I'm drawn to shades of green and blue.
With your wedding coming up, how do you see your personal style evolving—both as you step into marriage and as your career progresses?
I want to keep refining my personal style so I can impress my fiancée (wife next year). She is beautiful and her personal style is impeccable, so I'm determined to keep up! For my career, I focus on looking professional and presentable.
What’s the best style advice you’ve ever received from your dad—and what tailoring habit of his do you think you’ll carry on?
You may have the clothes, but that's not all you need. You must carry yourself well, with confidence, and when you do, charisma naturally follows. A good suit, shirt or trousers makes you feel your best, so start with a good timeless set for yourself.
